Heat Flow Meter

What is the Heat flow?

When there are two objects of different temperature together, energy will always be transferred from the hotter to the cooler object.
The objects will exchange thermal energy, until are equal. The heat flows from the hotter to the cooler object.
Heat flow is the movement of heat energy and Heat Flow are used to express the magnitude of such movements.

What is the Heat flow meter (Heat flow logger)

It is the instrument to measure the magnitude of heat movements.
It is so useful to visualize the Heat Flows (inflows and outflows) and quantities of heat.
The Heat Flow meter (Heat Flow Logger) is often used for evaluating insulation performance and analyzing the causes of temperature change.

Common application of Heat flow Loggers?

  • ■ Isolation of heat generated and dissipated in automotive parts
  • ■ Evaluate the thermal performance of building materials
  • ■ Measure the energy efficiency of consumer electronics
  • ■ Study the impact of body heat
  • ■ Diagnose the deterioration of insulation material in plant piping
  • ■ Index temperature fluctuation in agriculture and civil engineering

Differences between Temerature meter and Heat Flow meter.

Heat Flow and Temperature are related and often confused.
Temperature meter give you the reading in ºC but Heat Flow meter won't give you the reading in ºC.
Heat Flow meter read the magnitude of heat movements in mW/m2.
(A unit of 1 cal/cm2/s, now replaced by SI units: 1 HFU = 41.8 mW/m2.)

Example, here is some material which temperature is 100ºC and let's measure by tempearture meter and heat flow meter.
Reading of Tempeatrue meter should be 100ºC, but reading of Heat Flow meter will be totally different.
It will be "0 mW/m2" if its temperature stays exactly same as 100 ºC. If the material is being cooler. Then it shows -249 mW/m2 (just for example).
And if the material is being hotter, then it shows +340 mW/m2 (just for example)
