BOD - Biochemical Oxygen Demand

OD refers to the amount of oxygen the microorganism needs to digest organic matter in water (in 5 days at 20°C)

Unit of BOD is mg/L or mg of oxygen per 1 liter of water, The BOD value is taken as a measure of water quality. It is used in the waste water treatment industry if the BOD value is high, the water needs a lot of oxygen. In order for microorganisms to decompose organic substances in water, the water quality is poor. If the BOD value is lower, the water quality is better.

BOD measurements are therefore essential in the treatment of wastewater. Industrial plants or community areas for quick treatment of wastewater prior to discharge into natural water sources
