Light-emitting Diode หรือที่เรียกชื่อย่ออย่างแพร่หลายว่า LED คืออุปกรณ์สารกึ่งตัวนำชนิดนึง ที่จัดอยู่ในจำพวกไดโอด(diode) สามารถเปล่งแสง และมีคลื่นความถี่ต่อเนื่อง โดยในปัจจุบันสามารถแบ่ง LED ได้ 2 ประเภทคือ 1. แบบ Lamp Type, 2. แบบ Surface Mount Type (SMD) ซึ้ง LED มีประสิทธิภาพการให้แสงสว่างที่สูงว่าหลอดไส้ และให้ทิศทางแสงสว่างเฉพาะด้าน
